I'm a passionate and qualified English Tutor specialising in IELTS Training (General and Academic English), Essay Writing, English Fundamentals and Pronunciation Development.
I have over 10 years experience developing effective oral, written communication, pronunciation and reading skills; including EAL students, Primary and Secondary school students in Australia, as well as International students in Europe and the UK. I have also have taught (both in State schools and accredited language schools) in mixed class room environments and group Business English classes, for a variety of corporate businesses.
I also hold a current Working with Children card (valid until 2019) and a Bachelor of Education, including TEFL and TESOL Certificates.
I take great pride in my work and have always taken teaching very seriously. Because knowledge is power, and yet it can also be an enjoyable and inspiring process for both myself and my students.
As Kofi Annan once said...
"Knowledge is power. Information is liberating. Education is the premise of progress, in every society, in every family."
Some of my key-strengths are: patience, tailored lesson plans, the ability to quickly discern my students' needs, control & focus, diverse teaching methodologies, experience and listening skills. I find these strengths especially important in the training of English Pronunciation and IELTS.

» VCE English Studies

I believe in intensive, supportive and needs-focused lesson plans to encourage confidence, structure and rapid improvement. It takes a degree of inspiration to learn something new, and so I create tailored and inclusive lesson plans, that are both enjoyable and of high curriculum standards. I enjoy watching the progress of my students develop over our lessons together, and I'm a firm believer in structured homework with weekly reviews - whilst incorporating TESOL teaching methods.
I teach one-on-one lessons (more and more online lessons these days) and I am also available to teach group English classes.
My lessons are very straightforward. First I make an assessment lesson to gauge your specific needs; I evaluate your English grammar, reading, writing, pronunciation and comprehension levels. If you are just looking to learn how to write Essays, then we focus on this. If you just want to improve your pronunciation, then we make this the focus, etc.
I suggest 2 x 1 hour lessons per week with a 2-3 day gap between lessons to allow for home study. If you need more lessons then this can be arranged, if you only have time for 1 lesson per week, this is fine too.
AVAILABILITY & LOCATION
I am available for online lessons Monday - Friday, at select times. Skype lessons are the most flexible, as long as you have a working computer.
Otherwise, I also teach from my home in East Hawthorn. Availability is flexible, however my best days are:
Tuesday - 9:00am - 6:00pm
Thursday - 9:00am - 6:00pm
Friday - 9:00am - 11:00pm, or 3:00pm - 6:00pm
A travel fee of $10 is added when I travel to your location within surrounding CBD
suburbs, this includes lessons held at the central Melbourne library.
I have extensive experience tutoring via Skype, and for many students this is a preferred method when concerning distance and travel restrictions. I also recommend Skype lessons to keep the flow of lessons and homework going if other obligations occur. The worst thing for a student is to stop their lessons halfway through, so if you are taking lessons with me please consider having a Skype lesson if either of us are unavailable.
I offer a professional proofreading service in the following genre: theses, journal submissions, articles, essays, reports, research papers, reviews, projects, resumes, presentations, manuals and more. My attention to detail, knowledgeable adherence to relevant style and referencing standards as well as punctuality amount to a reliable, professional and courteous service for a range of clients, including those with an ESL background.
My editing process addresses the following aspects: spelling, capitalisation, punctuation, grammar, gender/cultural bias, hyphenation, abbreviations, font consistency, omissions and duplications. I will also correct and/or comment on format-related features such as alignment, line-spacing, page breaks, headings and graphics, as well as legibility/ readability, clarity and succinctness. Where necessary I will rewrite sentences to address presenting issues.
Rates are ‘per-hour’ and are very reasonable. No-obligation, free quotations are offered and are based on the perusal of a short sample of the written work. If this is not possible at the time, then the quote is regarded as an estimate only. Editing is usually implemented in Microsoft Word and completed documents are returned with Track Changes active. Other formats such as PDF and even hard copies are also acceptable.
My rates are very reasonable and in line with standard proof reading rates within Australia. 24 hour turnaround.
