Hi. My name is Alisa, and I have experience teaching at the elementary, secondary and tertiary levels. I have worked at the secondary level as an ESL instructor in France and with students from China and Nepal at an American high school. I have also tutored secondary students to prepare them for their exit exams (both in France and in America). Working as a teacher in an after-school literacy program, I helped elementary students develop their literacy skills using a variety of techniques. I have taught composition courses at the secondary and tertiary levels, and I have taken courses on one-on-one writing instruction to improve my tutoring skills. I also have experience as a copy editor and proofreader, so I can fine-tune the mechanics, syntax and grammar in any piece of writing. I have worked as a technical writer, so I am comfortable working in the subject areas of the sciences as well as the humanities. My tutoring style and methods will vary depending on your goals and how you best learn. I find it helpful to begin any tutoring relationship with a casual assessment, so I can design the most appropriate and successful lessons and practice exercises. As a poet and essay writer, I genuinely love writing and languages. I also understand not only the technical barriers towards communicating via the written word, but also the psychological challenges. I enjoy helping students overcome those challenges to feel more confident and excited about the writing process and end result. For tutoring, I charge $40/hr. For editing or proofreading work, it will depend on the text and the desired level of editing.
