Experience

I am a certified Chinese teacher specializing in Teaching Chinese as a Second Language with a Bachelor Degree of Teaching Chinese as a Second Language from Xi'an International Studies University, Xi'an, which is famous for the "Terra Cotta Warriors and Horses", a collection of terracotta sculptures depicting the armies of Qin Shi Huang, the First Emperor of China. I've been teaching Chinese as a second language for more than 9 years by now. During university, I studied at the School of Chinese Studies, where there were more than 2000 international students who came to China to study the Chinese language and experience its culture. Quite of a few of them were from Europe and North America, others from Latin America, Japan and Korea. I've been teaching Chinese as second language ever since then, both in big classes and small group tutorial, which were part of my practicum courses. Also I've been offering quite a lot of one-on-one tuition to many English-speaking students. So I have a great knowledge of what kind of difficulties English speakers will have during their Chinese language learning. As I’ve been trained to teach Chinese as a second language on a professional level, I know exactly how to adjust my teaching style to my students' learning style. Applying linguistic, psychological and cross-culture communicational knowledge, I have developed my own teaching methods, which are sensitive to cultural differences, genuine accents, and intricate linguistic and literary approaches. I'm enthusiastic, patient and encouraging in class. My main goal is to make our time effective, fun, and to increase the confidence and motivation in my students. Students report that working with me is much more efficient and less prone to language/cultural "hang-ups" that they've experienced with other teachers. Experience I've been teaching Chinese to English speakers for more than 7 years. I've been offering Chinese courses designed for English speakers, covering conversation, overall grammar, interactive role-playing, cultural exposure and eclectic literary readings and translation. Currently, I'm teaching Chinese at language school in Melbourne 2009-2010 Chinese Teacher/Tutor at Northwest Polytechnical University, Xi’an, China 2006-2009 Chinese Teacher/Tutor at Xi’an Bo-Ai International School, Xi’an, China 2005-2007 Volunteer Chinese Teacher/Tutor at Xi’an International Studies University
