Education

⭐ Top Unimelb Maths Masters Student ⭐ ⭐ Maths Tutor at UniMelb for 2 years ⭐ Hello there! My name is Georgina and I finished my Master of Science (Mathematics and Statistics) at the University of Melbourne in 2023, after completing a Bachelor of Science (Physics) in 2021. For my Masters, I won the M.L Urquhart Prize (top graduating student - WAM 94.25) and the Professor Wilson Prize (highest scoring thesis). I majored in Applied Mathematics and Mathematical Biology, and minored in Mathematical Physics. I am heading to the University of Oxford in September 2024 to start my PhD in continuum mechanics. My tutoring rate is $100 per hour.

Experience

I am only available to tutor until I move in mid-September, so I am mainly seeking students for ad hoc sessions. If you are stuck on a particularly tricky concept or need someone to finally sit down and explain the basics in a clear way, I'm the person for you! I know maths can be tricky, but I believe every person can find a way to make the concepts make sense for them, even if that involves drilling back down to the basics. I am able to explain things from multiple angles and identify common sticking points. You'll leave a session more confident in your mathematical ability than where you started! *LOCATIONS* I only offer tutoring at public libraries or online. I can tutor at the State Library, Brunswick Library, or Kathleen Syme Library. I have tutored at the University of Melbourne for over 2 years. At the University, I tutored: - Linear Algebra (MAST10007), including exam marking - Accelerated Mathematics 1 (MAST10008), including exam marking - Applied Mathematical Modelling (MAST30030), including exam marking - Numerical Methods and Scientific Computing (MAST30028) I have also tutored the following subjects at the University's Residential Colleges: - Vector Calculus (MAST20009) - Differential Equations (MAST20030) I have worked as a private high school tutor since 2018, and have experience tutoring middle grades maths, Maths Methods, Specialist Maths, and IB Mathematics (SL and HL).

Hobbies

I love teaching and am deeply passionate about getting more young people comfortable with maths regardless of their current ability level. I spend a lot of my free time thinking about how 'maths' as an institution can better support women and gender diverse people, and how maths can become a more accessible field as a whole. Outside of research and studying, my favourite things to do are playing soccer (I love supporting the Tillies!) and hosting board game nights.
