Miranda E.

Private tutor in Melbourne, Australia

Education

I hold a bachelor's degree in fine arts from VCA. I also have a Diploma of Languages from RMIT and a Diploma of Filmmaking from Escuela Internacional de Cine y Television.

Experience

I have tutored RMIT students in Spanish during their first and second years. I hope to continue tutoring and teaching the language as I believe that everyone should have access to language learning in this country. Learning a new language can be difficult for anyone. Private tutoring is an excellent academic resource that can help you no matter what type of student you are. Whether you are working ahead and seeking a challenge or need help catching up to your peers, expert help is available. I can break difficult concepts down so that they are easier to understand. Then, I can walk you through each concept until you fully grasp it. From homework to test prep, I can help with any part of your language course.

Hobbies

I believe language learning is best done by a combination of theory and practical, and have built up a collection of movies and music from the Spanish speaking world to aid my Spanish instruction for both adults and children alike. My own interests in filmmaking and art I incorporate into interesting lesson plans that include more than copy and repeat information. Another way to incorporate language into my lesson plans is to cook a dish from the spanish-speaking world. Cultural awareness and insight is the key to maintaining interest in the language being learnt. Interactive language learning helps build confidence and that is how I want my students to feel. My other hobbies include a jewellery making business which I aim to bring to different markets around Melbourne during 2018, photography, various sports and a whole lot of cooking. My interest in politics from around the world has often inspired my interest in learning Spanish, as Latin America has proven to be a hotbed of interesting ideas regarding environmental protection, indigeneity and colonization. The region is often full of interesting case studies that students can explore to improve their language skills.
