Experience
Everyone needs to understand English concepts to complete the VCE, but very few students ever understand the key points being taught in English. This is because you really need to study English to understand it, and students often don't know what they need to be studying. This is where tutoring can really help, in my experience. One-on-one tutoring with someone who knows English back-to-front and can tell where students are struggling can really work wonders within months. I have seen it happen many times. With a bit of focused, one-on-one work, students start to understand and ask questions, and then the penny drops. When they "get it," it is very satisfying. I have had a lot of experience tutoring in VCE English. It is something that I really enjoy because I have really helped my students achieve the grades they want, and I have helped them express themselves in their own way. That is why I really enjoy tutoring English. I tutor physics as well, but English is my favorite. On the one hand, I have a real knack for English, but it is also because I find English tutoring the most challenging and rewarding. With English and literature, you really have to work with students because it is not about getting the right or wrong answer. It is about learning how to think critically and developed sophisticated insights. Tutoring in a one-on-one setting is the best place to learn these skills. For this reason, though, it is hard. I really enjoy working with my students to bring their own voices and insights to get the best marks and learn how to express their ideas in ways that really help them grow. I believe that getting tutored in English can help students build skills that will help them for the rest of their lives - particularly critical thinking skills and learning to express their ideas. Tutoring English isn't always easy, though. Knowing when to challenge students and just let them sit with what they are comfortable with is a skill that I have learned over many years. The challenge of helping them find their own voice and not overwhelming them is also a fine-grained skill. But mostly, it is getting to know how each student thinks. One-on-one tutoring enables this learning to take place. It provides a space that cannot be made in today's overcrowded classrooms. I enjoy facilitating students getting good marks because I have seen how helpful that can be for their confidence. With my comprehensive knowledge of English, I can guide students in what they need to engage with to understand. Many students really start to understand English which causes the best thing to happen: they become interested in learning and learning independently. I genuinely enjoy English, and I want to share that joy with my students. Really understanding the concepts and skills in English serves you for the rest of your life, whether enjoying reading more, thinking more insightfully about our lives, or thinking more critically about how the media and marketing try to persuade us. With physics, I find the most useful area that I can tutor students in is the concepts behind maths. Since most students studying physics are proficient at maths. Since the maths in physics is not difficult, it is actually a poor understanding of the underlying concepts that usually lead to poor outcomes. Studying science has led me to recognize a lack of teachers able to span across disciplines like physics and English. I hope to use my broad academic skill set to help people thrive in doing what they want to do. Whether that means helping them with just one test or an entire curriculum, I will use all of my skills to the best of my ability to tailor what I need to teach in the most effective way I can.

Hobbies
I really enjoy bushwalking in the Northern Country of Victoria in my spare time. I have spent a lot of time in that part of the world as I have grown up. There, I have made sculpture and written to my heart's content. I was very interested in overseas travel, whether it was through the fragrant, frantic cities of India or the frosty carriages of Russian trains. The experiences have widened my perspective in ways I continue to be grateful for. I also enjoy using my hands making furniture with my Dad.
