Jack B.
Private tutor in Melbourne, Australia
Education
I obtained my Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) degree in 2015 from the University of Melbourne with first-class honors, with a major in chemistry. After completing my bachelor's degree, I decided to continue studying chemistry and found myself enrolled in a Master of Science (M.Sc.) degree, undertaking a synthetic organic chemistry project, which I completed in 2017. I enjoyed the research aspects of chemistry, so I decided to embark on a more challenging journey and applied for a Ph.D. scholarship to begin my doctoral studies in early 2018. I have since completed my Ph.D. studies.
Experience
In addition to conducting research, I am currently a laboratory demonstrator for the School of Chemistry at the University of Melbourne, as well as a casual tutor for VCE students and occasionally undergraduate students. As a laboratory demonstrator, I supervise small groups of students undertaking first, second, and third-year chemistry experiments. I provide students with easy-to-understand theoretical chemical concepts as well as equipping students with pivotal practical capabilities that are required for tertiary-level science courses. I am a physical chemist using laser spectroscopy to probe cold, gas-phase molecular ions to better understand their structure and behaviour in remote astronomical environments.
