Experience

I am a professional Teacher of Spanish & Communication from the south of Chile (born and raised), one of the locations that inspired Gabriela Mistral and Pablo Neruda, our Chileans Literature Nobel Prize. I arrived to Australia at the end of 2010, with my husband and son, to explore new opportunities in a multicultural country and, achieve new knowledge’s. At first, I spent time caring for my children and learning new skills to connect my professional background with the Australian context and thereby give the best to my students. At home, Spanish is the main language (English is the second one), because to me is important to give my native language to my children. As a teacher, I greatly enjoy sharing my time and cultural background with others, teaching Spanish is exciting and natural to me. I am always looking for different teaching approaches to give fun and attractive lessons such as videos, virtual games, role plays, power points presentations, movies, music, etc. In my lessons I use standard Spanish, but also Spanish variants can be included such as Peninsular Spanish (Spanish Spain), Chilean Spanish, Rioplatense Spanish (Argentinean) and Andean-Pacific Spanish. The lessons are designed to meet the students’ needs be they for business, academic or travel purposes. I have been teaching Spanish & Communication since 2003. In Chile, I worked in public and privates schools, in secondary and primary levels, with groups of 25 to 40 students per class. These years were most enjoyable and were also a great experience to my professional development. During my time as Educational Research Assistant, I worked supporting secondary teachers their teaching practicum (face and virtual mode) in working with Chilean students in vulnerable conditions. In Australia, my work (private and volunteer) has been primarily on helping children, youth and adults to acquire Spanish as a second or third language in family, school or professional contexts. At the moment I teach in a Spanish company established in the heart of Melbourne, to the employees with diverse Spanish language skills, from beginner to advance. 2014 (ongoing) - Certificate III in Business. Victoria Institute of Technology. 2012 - Certificate III in Spoken and Written English. Swinburne University of Technology. 2011 - Community Governance Training Program.
