Private tutor in Melbourne, Australia

Education

I hold a Bachelor of Social Science (Psychology) and a Bachelor of Applied Science (Psychology) with Honours from RMIT University, a Masters (MSc) in Applied Psychology from Liverpool John Moores University in the UK and a Doctorate (Ph.D) in Performance Psychology from Sheffield Hallam University in the UK.

Experience

As a former lecturer in the UK, I have taught psychology at the university level for around 7 years. As an active researcher, I continue to publish world-leading research in a variety of high-impact academic journals and am regularly invited to present my research at international psychology conferences. I have also recently authored a chapter within an undergraduate Psychology undergraduate textbook. I am a chartered Psychologist with the British Psychological Society (BPS) and I'm passionate about helping people translate their natural abilities into developed talents (...and have been doing so for the best part of a decade!). I have tutored many students not only in Psychology but also in study skills, writing styles, and essay/thesis structure. In my time at Sheffield University in the UK, I was nominated twice as the 'Inspirational Teacher of the Year' by the student body and acted as the chief examiner for the psychology A Level awarding body (UK equivalent to VCE). I am an invited reviewer of academic papers for a wide-range of journals. After spending a significant part of my life researching talent development and performance excellence, my mission is to ensure that my own research along with leading research in the fields of talent development, performance psychology and positive psychology is put into practice to benefit those who it was originally intended for. I achieve this through my consulting practice (www.thetalentdoctor.com). Research aside, I get a lot of personal satisfaction from helping others develop their talents and the success stories I've helped create along the way. I am available to tutor psychology students at all levels (i.e. VCE Psychology, undergraduate, Honours/Grad Diploma, Masters & PhD) at the State Library; RMIT; Toorak Library & my own consulting rooms in Armadale (just by Toorak station). I use a metaphor style to convey difficult concepts and theories and am able to provide thorough assistance with general understanding of topics, as well as specific essay construction, assignments, lab reports, qualitative research methods, presentations, APA referencing and research projects/ thesis dissertations.

Hobbies

Related to my research in talent development, I co-founded a social enterprise that helps young players released from professional football clubs to continue their academic and athletic development by securing scholarships to study and play college soccer in the US. By focusing on their strengths at a time when they felt at their lowest, they were able to turn a negative experience into a positive one by using their athletic gifts as the conduit to educate themselves. This initiative has, and continues to have, a positive impact by changing the lives of many young people and is something I feel proud to be associated with. On a personal level, I am a strong advocate of life-long learning and believe that we never stop growing. To this end, I very much 'practice what I preach' when it comes to my own development and personal growth. I truly believe this reflective practice keeps me aware of my own strengths and the ways that I can also enhance my own performance.
