Vicky X.
Private tutor in Melbourne, Australia
Education
I'm currently at Monash University studying my third year of medicine (MBBS). I attended High School at St Cuthbert's College in Auckland, New Zealand. I scored a 44 in the International Baccalaureate, with perfect 7s in HL English, HL Biology, HL Chemistry, SL History, and SL French. I also gained As in both TOK (Theory of Knowledge) and EE (Extended Essay – English).
Experience
I've had plenty of experience tutoring, with this being my fourth year. Currently, I tutor 8 students in a range of subjects such as HL and SL English, SL History, EE (English), and TOK. Throughout high school I tutored IB SL Chemistry, Year 10 English, and Year 9 Maths. I've helped students receiving a 4 in SL English transform their marks to gain not only a perfect 7 in English but also attain Top of English in their year level. I've guided students into understanding TOK so that they can plan and write TOK essays and presentations with ease. Numerous students needing the extra push to turn their 6 in HL English and SL History have attained the coveted 7. As a recent high-school graduate, I can offer the most up-to-date information and tips to students on how to master the IB. Along with my approachable nature, my age ensures that lessons are set within a comfortable learning environment. The peer-like experience I provide has shown to be extremely effective: students ask questions and openly discuss problems they may otherwise not when with authoritative figures. Additionally, as a New Zealander who studied IB in Auckland, I can provide resources that may not be available to other Melbourne-based (or Australian-based) students. Currently, I am a RA (Residential Advisor) in a Residential Hall at Monash University inhabited by 250 students. I am also on the committee as the Promotions Officer for a Global Health Education club within the university. In High School I held the position of House Captain and resided over 120 students. This involved organising inter-house events, charity drives, and leading house assemblies. I was also UN Youth High School Ambassador, and ran school-wide introductory workshops and tutorials to prepare students for regional and national Model UN Assemblies.
