Private tutor in Melbourne, Australia

Education

I am a 2017 graduate with a Biochemistry and Molecular Biology major from the University of Western Australia. I had a GPA of 6.25. I did broadenings in Economics, Japanese, Finance, and Human Biology. I then went on to earn my Master of Social Work at the University of Melbourne in 2020.

Experience

I have seven years of experience tutoring high school maths (non-IB but willing to tutor IB students) from years 7-10. I was a primary and high school tutor with a company (pre-primary to year 10) with years 5 and 6 being my forte. I dealt with young kids who were resistant to learning or were looking to catch up. I developed techniques to simplify problems for them when needed. The range of privately tutored students I've worked with is from 8 years old to 14 years old. The majority of these students have been educationally talented but weren't reaching up to their potential in the education system. These were either structural problems or personal attitudes towards school. I was able to connect with them and help them reach their potential. The proudest moment of my tutoring was getting a 9th-grade girl to improve from 35% to 75/80% in the top maths level of her school by not giving up on her or doubting her like those around her. I am confident in tutoring up to year 12 WACE Chemistry (I achieved an 85 in WACE Chemistry 3AB). I can tutor students in year 12 taking Chemistry 3AB, Physics 3AB, Maths 3CD (methods), and Maths Specialist 3CD. I achieved 85.3, 83.2, 85.1, and 82.3 respectively for year 12. I believe tutoring is great for both the student and the tutor. It brings out a side of a student that they might not even know they were capable of. My goal as a tutor is not to push students to success but to guide them and help them understand and feel confident in concepts they are having problems with. With that, results are sure to be evident.
