Thank you for viewing my profile and considering me as your tutor. My name is Martin and I read Latin at Monash University, graduating with the Honours Degree of Bachelor of Arts. My final honours grade was H2A. I'm also a fully qualified Librarian, holding a Graduate Diploma in Library and Information Studies from Monash University. My literary specialisation is in the area of Roman Comedy where I wrote my honours dissertation on the comedies of Plautus. While I was at university, I studied almost all of the Latin subjects available to me and I am available to provide tutoring assistance in the following areas of Roman literature and language: Comedy - Plautus & Terence Didactic Poetry - Lucretius & Virgil Elegiac Poetry - Catullus, Horace & Propertius Epic - Virgil History - Pliny, Sallust, Suetonius & Tacitus Novel - Apuleius & Petronius Satire - Horace, Juvenal & Martial I can also assist students with revision of Latin grammar and analysis of syntax as well as unseen translation skills and practice. As part of my course in the Classics, I also examined Ancient Greek Comedy, Epic and Tragedy, albeit through English translation; I consider these genres to be an essential ingredient to developing a thorough understanding of Roman language and literature.
Experience
I have tutored students of all ages, from those just taking their first steps in Latin, through to pupils studying for their final VCE Exams. My finely-honed and flexible approach to teaching Latin allows each student, whether they are tackling a new task for the first time or looking for extra engagement, to build upon their reading comprehension and translation skills levels in Latin. At my tutorials, I always encourage my pupils to bring their current school work and textbooks with them. After lessons, I provide extra exercises and notes from my resources in classical studies to support their learning in the subject and give them confidence in reading Latin. WORKING WITH CHILDREN CHECK I hold a current Working With Children Check. RATES Year 7 to 10: One-on-one session - $50 per hour Group sessions - $35 per hour per student VCE students, tertiary students: One-on-one session - $70 per hour Group sessions - $55 per hour per student CLASS LOCATIONS Classes are run either in a student's own home or out of a public library.
