Private tutor in Melbourne, Australia
Education
I earned my bachelor's and master's degree in Biology at the Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich. Currently, I am pursuing my Ph.D. in Medical Research at the Walter and Eliza Hall Institute at Melbourne University.
Experience
Currently, I am a science mentor at the University High School's Gene Technology Access Centre. I began working there in early 2015. I held a week-long outreach program for remote schools in Gippsland, teaching science topics, such as evolution, genetics, and molecular biology to year 8-10 students in 2015. I enjoy tutoring because I understand the frustration that can come with struggling in science. My teaching style focuses on making the material as accessible to my students as possible. I find it highly rewarding to be able to find a spark of passion once something that seems complex is broken down and explained in a way that the other person can understand. It's great to see my students enjoy and share my passion for science rather than thinking it is a daunting thing that can't be mastered.

Hobbies
I enjoy travelling (obviously, because this is how I ended up here, at the other side of the globe :) ), learning about new cultures, staying fit through sport and fitness. The great outdoors, from hiking to camping to the beach and anything in-between. I would describe myself as very bubbly, outgoing and proactive and I usually try to motivate others to join me in whatever my next adventure is. As a tutor, I like to explain things using imagination, pictures and motions rather then a textbook.
