Education

University of Melbourne - Bachelor of Arts (Politics/ International Studies) - First Class Honours (80-100%) - received Deans Honours List award for academic distinction, graduating in the top 3 percent of my year in 2013 Latrobe University - Bachelor of Arts - Honours (Gender, Sexuality and Diversity Studies) - High Distinction (80-100%) Certificate ii - Auslan (current) Masters of Teaching (commencing 2017)

Experience

I have extensive academic and community sector experience and am currently seeking to support students at tertiary and secondary levels. I am able to teach in English, essay writing skills, and a wide range of humanities subjects. My passions are History, Gender Studies, Politics and Criminology. Since March 2016 I have worked Monash University as a teaching associate for a third year criminology course. I graduated with first class honours from Melbourne University in mid-2013, with a major in Politics and International Studies. I also have three years industry experience in policy, research and project management roles in the family violence sector. I have worked as a project support officer with the Western Integrated Family Violence Committee (WIFVC), and a Health Promotion Worker (Policy and Development) at Women’s Health West. I am now working in education support with Charles Latrobe College. In 2015 I completed an Honours research degree with Dr Carolyn D'Cruz at Latrobe University in Gender, Sexuality and Diversity Studies titled, Shifting perspectives: listening for queer voices in Victorian anti-violence education programs. My research project involved interviews with anti-violence educators, and critical engagement with anti-violence program materials and prominent theories of violence prevention. In addition to academic qualifications and work experience in the family violence sector, have been actively involved in the delivery of anti-violence education sessions in schools with Young UN Women, Women's Health West, and currently with Undercurrent Victoria. Our priorities at Undercurrent include, developing and implementing community-based responses to domestic and sexual violence, with a focus on flexible and non-judgmental, student-led facilitation styles. I believe this experience in facilitating sensitive material will be an asset to a tutoring position.

Hobbies

I am involved in community circus, and study Auslan part-time to satisfy my love of languages. I also enjoy coding and web development, and given the chance could spend all day curled up with a book. This year I have started training a guide dog pup, so I might ask you if you would be comfortable with her joining us for tutoring sessions. She is very well behaved (but will most likely nap through the lesson) When taking on a new student for ongoing tutoring, I will try to find out as much as I can about their strengths and interests. In this way learning activities and strategies will be tailored to the individual for better outcomes.
