Education

I am completing my final semester of my third year of university. I am a Bachelor of Science student at Monash University. My majors are Geology/Earth Sciences and Geography. I have also minored in Atmospheric and Climate Sciences. Other subjects that I have completed include maths, chemistry, governmental climate studies/decision making studies, and teaching units. In Year 12 I completed the subjects: geography, mathematics, french, religious studies, english, chemistry. I have a GPA of 3.045 and I am aiming to complete an honours year in 2017.

Experience

I have three years maths tutoring experience and some geography tutoring experience. I want to be a tutor because I am passionate about empowering young people in their learning. My domain is the natural world and more importantly, how people relate to and experience the wider world. In my opinion, geography is one of the most important subjects a student can undertake because it teaches us to be global citizens and to take responsibility for our ever changing world. I would like to tutor maths and science because I understand that these subjects (particularly mathematics) are areas of distress for many young people. I would like to help to remove the stigma of maths and encourage young people to find out what techniques and methods of understanding work for them. Learning is a very individual occurrence and is unique for each person. I have worked with many young people in educational and social environments and I believe this built up rapport enables me to work confidently with young students! I was chosen to be a student speaker at multiple revision lectures for year 12 students. I have also been part of panels that discuss study skills and good habits. As well as this, in 2015 I participated in a semester long program, during which I created a short science unit aimed at middle primary-school students. I was involved in the creation, organisation, running, teaching, and reviewing of this program. This has given me the ability to communicate effectively with young people in a teaching environment. I would love to help young people achieve their best!

Hobbies

I love nature and exploring the world around me. As such I love to travel around the world. I love camping and exploring places that I've never been before. I have been brought up in a fishing family, and last year I was chosen to represent the young people of Victoria at the Australian National Recreational Fishing Conference. I love jet skiing and fast water sports, and I enjoy many other outdoor pursuits. As well as this, I am passionate about arts and crafts. I love cooking and love to create food by taste, not by recipe.
