Jeremy P.

Private tutor in Melbourne, Australia

Education

I have a Bachelor of Music (Hons) degree in Music Composition which I completed at the West Australian Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA) and Edith Cowan University (ECU).

Experience

I have been teaching music composition, theory, piano, keyboard, and guitar for more than 10 years. I have prepared and guided many students in their tertiary studies. I majored in classical composition but also took jazz harmony, aural, improvisation, and arranging classes all through my university education. I am fluent in the classical composition techniques of Bach harmony and counterpoint, Debussy Impressionism, Stravinsky Primitivism, Reich Minimalism, to name a few. I also have expertise in areas of jazz theory such as modes of the melodic (jazz) minor, Count Basie big band arranging techniques, and the superimposition of Coltrane changes over various progressions. I enjoy tutoring so much because I am extremely passionate about music theory and composition. I love talking about theory and dissecting it from different angles to help others gain a better understanding of its inner workings.
