Experience
I'm a professional tutor of English, and, whether it be spoken pronunciation, writing ability, reading comprehension, grammar, or anything else about the language, I've been there and taught it. Currently, I work mostly with university students from overseas who are keen to hone their language skills, as well as children dealing with hurdles, such as Dyslexia, who need a helping hand. I have considerable professional experience in the field of copy editing. I was chief copy editor with Zest, an Australian-based cookbook production company, in which I was required to meticulously comb both recipes and the personal stories attached to them, bringing the copy up to the standard required for print. I was also a copy editor with the Macau Daily Times, the largest English-language newspaper in Macau, China. The Macau Daily Times is written primarily by journalists for whom English was a second language, which presented a unique challenge and learning opportunity, as well as forcing me to hone my copy-editing ability to a tee. I worked in a contract role as Communications Administrator with Seven West Media, the parent company of Channel 7, Pacific Magazines, and The West Australian newspaper. In this role, I assisted the HR team with the communications responsibilities beyond their scope, including writing the Equal Employment Opportunity presentation for recruits, writing the LinkedIn Profiles for the CEO and executives, and orchestrating the development of an internal discussion forum designed to ease communications between departments. I also had the pleasure of holding a short work experience role with Harper's Bazaar, London. In this role, I wrote and edited copy, which has been published both online and in the print issue of Harper's Bazaar UK.
