Jenna C.
Private tutor in Melbourne, Australia
Education
I completed high school in Queensland, earning an OP3 (equivalent ATAR 96.85), and scored in the 93rd percentile on my UMAT. Throughout high school, I was enrolled in the Academic Excellence program at my school, and in 2014 was the dux of my 450-student cohort. In 2014 I was also an Academic nominee for International Women's Day. In Grade 12 I topped the state in Philosophy and Reason and topped my school in the QCS (a statewide test that determines a school's ranking). I am currently a student at the University of Melbourne with a major in Biomedicine: Genetics.
Experience
I am extremely passionate about teaching and helping others to come to love their studies, rather than just endure them. Earlier this year I volunteered for a month at a government school in rural Thailand, and am eager to continue teaching. I can help with a variety of topics including the standard K-12 curriculum, biology, the flute, and genetics.

Hobbies
My family has always been very musical, encouraging me to take up violin at six years old, and later flute and piccolo in primary school. All through grade school and into university I have enjoyed playing solo, in orchestras and concert bands, performing at eisteddfods and other such events. My favourite performance to date would have to be a tie between a flute duet with my mother at my high school's Music Excellence end-of-year concert, and a piccolo solo in Michael Flatley's 'Lord of the Dance' at my last ever school award's ceremony. Aside from music I am very keen on volunteering, and have gotten involved with as many charities and organizations as possible over the years, including Surf Life Saving Australia, the Cancer Council Foundation, Scouts Australia, and Live Below the Line. My major focus is now to be accepted into a medical degree, and from there become a qualified surgeon. I have been working towards this specific goal since 2013, when I applied for and was awarded a Youth Development grant on the basis of academic success and community involvement. This grant allowed me to travel to India for three weeks on a medical observational internship. In this time I shadowed doctors and surgeons at a large hospital, and also spent time helping out at local orphanages and group homes for mentally challenged adults. In 2014 I was awarded a second grant which allowed me to travel to Thailand, this time focusing on surgery in a private hospital. These experiences highlighted the extreme difference in medical care available to those in a country like Australia, and those in lesser developed countries, and as a result I'm determined to play a part in reducing those differences.
