Kara M.

Private tutor in Melbourne, Australia

Education

I have a Bachelor of Science degree from Messiah College in the USA. I have completed a TEFL qualification at Teaching Training in Beijing China. I have also completed courses in Prepress/Desktop Publishing and Online Marketing online with Udemy, and a Business Marketing course with Community Innovation Lab.

Experience

I have experience teaching English as a Second Language in China to students ranging from kindergarten to high school. I also have experience working as a private English tutor in both Australia and China, helping students of all ages learn English as a second language. I have previously worked as a teaching intern in Harrisburg, USA, where I helped organize students after school and helped them improve their learning skills by evaluating the way they learn, what they enjoy as well as what frustrates them about the subject material. In addition to this, I have worked as both a biology and calculus tutor in the USA and Canada, respectively. As a tutor, I created lesson plans for one-on-one tutoring sessions. I have also taught chemistry, biology, calculus, and English as a Second Language, using a variety of teaching materials such as videos, PowerPoint presentations, and worksheets to explain science, cultural and grammatical concepts to both English and non-English speakers. I have previously created interactive lesson plans for tutoring students in individual and classroom settings. Over and above my teaching and tutoring experience I have also worked as a medical writer and journalist which involved condensing knowledge and research articles on sickle cell anemia and writing informational articles on SCD treatments, lifestyles, and alternatives to healthcare. In addition to this, I also wrote an article on bone marrow awareness to educate the public about registering for transplants. I have also written an article on Australian Culture from the perspective of a Canadian that was published in Onya Magazine. I furthermore completed a newsletter editorial internship where I was responsible for editing raw material at a teaching agency in China. Finally, I have previously worked as a Swinging Bridge opinion writer, working on articles regarding healthy lifestyles and disease, as well as investigating daily habits and creating discussions on world healthcare.
