Hobbies

Writing: During the last decade, I have developed an extensive written portfolio, which include academic, literary and journalistic works, written in both English and Spanish. Including two academic articles published in the journals: Sense of Cinema and the International Journal of Comparative Literature and Translation Studies. I have published my doctoral dissertation through the editorial house Scholar's Press and a short novel (in Spanish) through the editorial house Ediciones Oblicuas (titled Postales de Villalibre). Illustration and graphic design: I have adapted a series of film scripts and a theatre play into graphic novels. I have recently began to publish these works, together with a couple of art books (which compile my work in photo-montage and digital illustration) through the Amazon Kindle service. Samples of these works can be found on my website: www.mr2books.com. Audio-visual production and editing: For the last seven years I have been constantly producing audio-visual projects, which include documentary narratives, video-art and animation. As mentioned above, during most of this period, I have also taught related courses -like the units ‘Digital Video and Audio’ and ‘Journalism Practice II’ (TV journalism) at Swinburne University of Technology and a similar course (called ‘Visual Narratives’) at the Central University of Colombia. Online publishing: prior to the commencement of my doctoral research, I created an artistic project called The Outsider’s Guide to Melbourne, which was a website destined for the promotion of emerging artist in Melbourne, conceived as an interactive journal of the city. With this project, I received submissions in video, photography, illustrated and written formats, by more than thirty contributors. While developing the website, in 2008 I organised a photojournalism competition called Capturing Melbourne, for which I received a Quick Response Grant from the City of Melbourne. Since my return to Australia in 2016, I became curator and editor of Photodust (www.photodust.org), which is a project that aims to engage and encourage collaboration between artists, for the production and publication of photographic art.
